• Tips for Improving Your Furnace Airflow

Although your furnace may be working hard, inadequate airflow will result in a home that’s cooler than you expect. Improving the airflow through your ducts will increase the comfort inside your home and lower the cost of heating this winter. One simple way to improve furnace airflow is to inspect and clean your vents and registers. Wipe down grills with a damp cloth or use a vacuum attachment to clean them. Make sure all your vents and registers are open and not blocked by furniture or other belongings. Changing your furnace filter will also improve airflow, especially if your current filter is clogged with dust and debris. When inserting a new furnace filter, make sure the arrow points into the ductwork in the direction air is flowing into your furnace. If you feel comfortable accessing your furnace, you can also clean the fan blades of the blower motor to improve heating performance in your home.

  • Determining Airflow Direction for Your Furnace Filter

Furnace filters capture dust and other particles to prevent buildup inside your furnace, air conditioner, and ducts. When replacing your furnace filter, it’s important to orient the filter correctly with respect to airflow through the system for the best performance.

In this video, you will learn how to determine the direction of airflow through your HVAC system. Air flows from your home into your system’s return air grill to be heated or cooled. When you replace your furnace filter, check that the arrow on the filter is pointing into the duct before locking the screen in place.

    Adopt a Family

It is that time of year for families and friends to come together for the holidays; sharing, giving and loving one another. But many families and children go without food, clothing, toiletries, house wares and toys. All the things that most of us take for granted. Thankfully, Estes Services has a wonderful staff of caring employees that, throughout the year, donate a portion of their income, food and time to help families in need.

This year, Estes employees raised over $6,000 which was used to purchase bathroom necessities, clothing, shoes and toys. They also donated food, wrapped and delivered all of those items to 3 families in need and 16 children at the Carrie Steele-Pitts Home.

One of the families was a mother and her 10 children who are currently living with the mother’s sister and her husband. The family includes 7 girls and 3 boys, ranging from 2 years to 13 years old. Estes was able to get almost everything on their list including toys, clothes, shoes and a toddler bed.

The second family is currently living in a motel with an 8 month old baby. They were able to supply them with many of their basic needs including diapers, bottles and a few little toys for the baby.

The third family includes a mother who is surviving on minimum pay and her teenage son. She has had a leak in her propane tank which Estes fixed as well as supplying items on the son’s wish list including games for his X-Box. Estes employees donated many of these games to him.

Estes is thrilled to be able to help these families and children in need. Thank you to all of the employees who donated time, food and money to this great cause!

  • Tips for Shopping for a New Furnace

There are many different qualities to look for in a new furnace. If you’re willing to put in the time and energy researching furnaces, you will find one that fits your needs. Read this article to learn about four tips that will help you in the process of selecting a new furnace .

    Furnace maintenance

    Choose a Reputable Dealer
Before  shopping for a furnace , shop around for a reputable HVAC company in the Atlanta area that can help you size a new furnace, choose the best furnace for your needs, and even install the furnace for you.

    Compare Fuel Types
Furnaces can run off of electricity, natural gas, or oil. Check online, with local energy suppliers, or with a trustworthy HVAC company to see which energy source is the best option for your area. If you are considering a natural gas furnace but you don’t have a utility line, be sure to factor in the cost of installing one.

    Look at Efficiency
Energy Star certified furnaces will save you a great deal of money in the long run, which may end up paying for the additional cost of a more efficient unit. Look at the Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating to determine the energy efficiency of a furnace. A high AFUE rating indicates that most of fuel that is burned is converted into heat.

    Check the MERV Rating
The Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating tells you how efficient the furnace’s filter is at trapping harmful particles in the air. A higher MERV rating of between on your next furnace will ensure cleaner air when heating season comes.

    Consider Warranty Coverage
Different furnaces have different warranties. To give yourself peace of mind while safeguarding your investment, opt for a furnace with generous warranty coverage. Consider an extended warranty for a worry-free furnace purchase.
